When will Christchurch's land plan happen? It is believed that as many as 12000 homes will be condemned. People are becoming frustrated at the slowness of an announcement by the New Zealand government...

It does seem very slow - but perhaps government departments are finding it all too much too quickly. Even here in Queensland the fallout from our floods is still causing lots of grief. Many homes still not rebuilt - issues with insurance and decisions about the safety of rebuilding on the same spot. Sadly part of the fallout from natural disasters. Look at Japan - OMG!

People just want an answer regarding those homes that will be condemned. They can then discuss things as a family, consider their options and move ahead.

There are probably similar decisions to be made in Queensland.

We have a state earthquake commission which pays the first $100,000 of claims. The problem is the number of different claims for each earthquake and severe afershock. Takes some coordinating I guess.

Japan? Hard to think about the sheer scale of the disaster.
