NZ SAS special forces could be sent to Fiji to restore law, order and democracy...
The New Zealand PM, John Key, mentioned the possibility of New Zealand troops going to Fiji to restore law, order and democracy, but thought it unlikely.
It was said that Fiji would fight back because they have a large defence force for the size of the country. Maybe! But the troops NZ could consider are among the premier special forces troops in the world - the NZ SAS, who have served with distinction in Afghanistan for a number of years.
The last time NZ troops were sent to a Pacific country to restore order was in Samoa in 1914; they were actually armed police and a number of Samoans were killed after riots Samoa was at that stage a German colony taken over by NZ - or so the story goes.Fijian troops would be mere babes in the woods against those Kiwi SAS troops.

Bro, sending a nz troops to fiji would be a wrong option to take. if you're still thinking of fijians as 'mere babes' in modern combat and modern weaponry usesage u're wrong. for the fact we fijians, as we're born into this world, we're born to be warriors. we're naturally born with warrior instincts. fijians have a passion and done it, love it, -for the use of modern military weapons and firepower together with modern military tactical strategies is like drinking glass of water - we just love wars, combats and battles. love the feel of weapons on our hands. love to be supreme over the enemies, love to bleed and die on a battlefield. only one, we fear and respect, the Almighty GOD - Jehovah Yahweh. fijians are silent warriors, we do our instincts on a any battlefields. for the facts fijians are highly respected from the tribal war days, into world war 1, world war 2 in the solomons islands and png, the malay (malaysia) war against the communists, middle east (labanon and sinai). now iraq and afghanistan. fijians also make the highest number in the british army from any commonwealth country and also have the highest foreign country in all british sas regiments. do the homework. cheers.
I have alot of respect for the Special Forces and the great service that they do for the good of us all. The word "babes" used to describe the Fiji Military Forces is indeed an insult and indication that we are weak. But as a christain country we Fijians are taught by the good bible to forgive our brothers so we will. "I can do all things through christ who gives me strength" please ponder on that and what it means. It will be a unwise move to send the NZ SAS here to Fiji. Warriors are not made they are born with it. We Fijians love our islands and we love the Almighty above us all. We shall not tremble to any men nor any nation that wants to invade this land God has given us. God Speed and may God bless the NZ SAS and grant them mercy and protection. Vinaka
I just read this article. The person from New Zealand boasting about New Zealand's SAS doesn't even know that these same SAS personnel do train with ordinary Fijian soldiers in Fiji's dense terrain. If he thinks their NZ SAS is a walk in the park against Fijian soldiers, he better brush up on his history of Fijian soldiers in special forces like the British SAS. Fijians are much more natural soldiers because it's part of their traditional customs. Every clan is a warrior to a chief and some chiefly warrior clans can be warriors to other chiefs. This is built into traditional Fijian relationships. If you study why Fijians are great soldiers, just study this warrior culture because Fijian have warrior ranks in their culture. Their traditional relationships are built around this and every Fijians are taught as they grow up.
